  • A possible source of disease
  • Corrosive to stonework and metal fixings
  • Blocked gutters and drains causing water to flood buildings
  • A serious slip hazard for potential accidents
  • Expensive in ongoing costs to continuously remove and clean.

Bird Spikes

Most people wouldn’t even know that bird spikes have been installed on a building. They are virtually invisible even from a short distance. However, consideration should be given to the aesthetics of a building and what the building would look like if it wasn’t proofed and left with the pigeons perching on it and their droppings covering it.

Point systems are limited to pigeons and gulls and are a deterrent, which rely on upward pointing wires or spikes to deter the birds from perching. There are many different products available. These systems usually stick in place with silicone adhesive, but can also be secured with suitable screws.

Bird spikes are:

  • Cost effective
  • Humane
  • Virtually invisible when installed
  • Easy to install and maintain
  • Weather proof
  • Long lasting

The spikes' clever design provides the solution to virtually every situation where spikes are suitable. The materials can be used to protect against pigeons in a wide variety of circumstances such as night time roosting and on narrow pipes to wide building ledges. Longer spikes are designed to deter gulls from landing.

Bird Nets

Bird netting can be used against any of the urban pest species. When fitted properly, with the correct mesh size for the species of bird, a net will keep even the most persistent of birds out of the heaviest pressure sites.

Netting can be fitted horizontally to exclude pest birds from open areas such as walls and courtyards. They can also be fitted vertically to proof large frontages of buildings. As a combination of horizontal and vertical fitting, nets can be used to proof installations such as air conditioning units on roofs.

Wire Systems

Wire systems are also cost effective and extremely versatile bird proofing system. It has been used for many years to keep pigeons and gulls off buildings and can be adapted to fit almost any building and architectural feature.

Falconry

Birds of prey can be flown in areas where feral birds are roosting or feeding with the effect of deterring the birds from that area. These natural methods are becoming much more available.
