PEST NAME : BOOKLICE (Psocids spp) Many species commonly found.
SIZE, SHAPE AND COLOUR : 1 to 2mm. Tiny soft bodies, wingless or winged species, pale yellow, straw to dark brown and black.
BIOLOGY : Up to 200 eggs laid 1 to 3 a day. Eggs incubate for 1 or 2 weeks, the nymphs have 3 to 8 moults to adult size. Prefer 20 to 25oc but will develop at 10oc. Need damp environment for successful growth, therefore high humidity.
PREFERRED FOODS : Moulds and micro fauna growing on paper, cardboard, pallets and packaging.
HABITAT : Widespread in warehouses, on many wooden pallets and on packaging especially if stored in damp warehouses. |
