PEST NAME :  RICE WEEVIL (Sitophilus oryzae)

SIZE, SHAPE AND COLOUR :  2 to 3.5mm.  Dark brown nearly black with four clearly defined red spots on fused wing cases.  Less shiny than Grain Weevil. 8 segmented antennae. Hind wings present.

BIOLOGY :  As above Grain Weevil, but prefers warmer temperature of above 13oc.

PREFERRED FOODS :  Buckwheat, peas flour, biscuits and tobacco but favours rice.

HABITAT :   Rice mills, flour mills and less common in warehousing in UK.
